During Interphase, chromosomes duplicate to produce sister chromatids. During prophase, duplicated chromosomes condense and duplicated chromosomes migrate to the equatorial plane of the cell and the nuclear envelope breaks down. During metaphase sister chromatids of each duplicated chromosome move to opposite poles of the cell. During anaphase, chromosomes decondense and new nuclear membranes forms.
